The Butterfly Lion is about a boy named Michael who runs away from his boarding school and meets a lovely old lady called Millie. Millie tells him the story of a boy named Bertie who lived in Timbavati. He lived in a compound farm and he was also sent to the same boarding school. This is the story of how Bertie found a lion and had it sent away to a circus and how him and Millie became best friends until he joined the army in World War 1. how he saved two dying men in battle and how he was awarded the Victoria Cross. After the war Millie and Bertie could be together again. Then they found the White Lion that he was looking for all his life. Millie and Bertie got married and after quite a few years the lion went to heaven. Bertie wanted to remember him forever so they started making a statue of him on the field where they lived so his spirit could live on forever.
From this book I learnt that if you want to find or do something you should commit to doing that like Bertie has been looking for the butterfly lion ever since he moved to the boarding school in England.
I felt that this book had a lot of mixed emotions like emotional, sentimental and heartwarming.
